In this episode of KDIGO Conversations in Nephrology, host Dr. Brad Rovin (The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, US) welcomes Dr. Dana Rizk (University of Alabama at Birmingham, US) to discuss the rationale for using complement inhibition in the management of IgA nephropathy. Dr. Rizk explains how recent experimental research and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified genes involved in complement pathways that may contribute to disease etiology. She also examines how dysregulation of the lectin, alternative, and terminal complement pathways contributes to disease pathophysiology and how complement inhibitors may help address these processes.
